Psychotherapy for Adults
I specialize in supporting clients with anxiety, trauma, life transitions, chronic illness and family and relationship challenges. My approach is warm and engaged. I view each person as an individual and deeply honor our human need to feel understood and accepted in the world for who we are.
My style is eclectic and I view our work together through a psychodynamic, humanistic and brain-body lens. As an example, a session with a client could involve exploring how past experiences and relationships may be showing up in the present, while also looking to the future. Perhaps there are traumas that you're struggling to process or a relationship challenge. Or a feeling of stuckness that you'd like to better understand. Each person's experience is unique. As part of our treatment planning, we'll discuss the therapy goals you have for yourself and how we can best reach these goals, as well as learn self-care techniques and coping strategies to assist you out of sessions.
Pain, worry, sadness, loss and grief are a part of life. So are happiness, peace, joy, appreciation and gratitude. Wherever you are, moment to moment, you will have the space to be with those feelings. Many of my clients are seeking balance in life. Taking any step toward ease, no matter how small, can result in feelings of empowerment and peace. It is my honor to partner with you as you create your path.
Play Therapy for Kids
My work with children involves getting a picture of what’s happening internally with your child. Although our children may seem to communicate well, in many cases, internal awareness is not yet fully formed. As a result, upset is often communicated through anxious, withdrawing or acting out behaviors.
I connect with my child clients through authentic respect, acceptance and compassion. I use directive and non-directive play therapy techniques including sandtray, expressive arts, games and a variety of interactive activities to help children process and express what’s happening internally. Ultimately, positive shifts in behavior happen as the child and therapist form an authentic connection, resulting in a sense of safety for the child. Upsetting feelings and experiences integrate and healing begins. I also teach kids how to manage and cope with the big feelings that are part of life and how to engage in self-care.
No matter the challenge your child is struggling with, I provide an affirming and non-judgmental space where unconditional positive regard and support is a given.
Support Sessions for Caregivers
I’ll partner with you to help nurture and deepen your relationship with your child. Taking this courageous step can help you to better understand the behaviors your child is putting forth. Children need to feel our support and acceptance.
My caregiver support sessions are informed by Family Systems Theory - a theory of human behavior that essentially focuses on the challenges of being human in our relationships, primarily family. It utilizes systems thinking to view the family as an emotional unit. We’ll explore how family relationships and interactions influence your child’s view of self and the world.
Building on this framework and including your child in the process, we’ll create a strengths-based, dynamic toolbox to support your child’s needs and goals.
My hope for caregivers who are struggling to manage acting out behaviors is to consider the above and seek the services of a compassionate and supportive child therapist. And be kind and compassionate to yourself. When children sense feelings of calm and understanding from caregivers and caring adults, moving through challenging behaviors becomes easier. Healthy coping skills and resilience develop, resulting in children learning how to self-regulate and integrate big and upsetting feelings in a healthy way. I look forward to connecting.
